Playrix x Overhood: Custom 3D Figurines for a 20-Year Anniversary Celebration

Playrix is one of the world’s top three mobile gaming companies, known for its popular free-to-play games. To mark their 20th anniversary, Playrix approached us with a request for a highly customized gift: collectible figurines featuring their mascots for every employee. The project required meticulous attention to detail, premium materials, and an elegant packaging solution.

The initial request included a pre-designed figurine concept and a production target of 2,600 units. Additionally, Playrix wanted a custom-designed box to enhance the presentation. However, the box design was not yet developed, requiring us to create it from scratch.

The project kicked off with a supplier selection phase, where we sourced and tested multiple manufacturing options. We created three initial samples, each varying in cost, material, and paint precision. These samples were evaluated in our office before being sent to Playrix’s team in Cyprus for review.

After two months of sample testing, we selected a supplier that delivered the highest-quality model in the shortest time frame. The winning material choice was ABS and PVC plastic, allowing for a multi-piece assembly with pre-colored components. This method ensured cleaner details and a more polished final look compared to traditional polyresin figurines.

With the supplier locked in, we moved on to the next phase: logistics and distribution. Since Playrix operates across multiple regions, we had to ensure smooth delivery to six different countries: Kazakhstan, Georgia, Armenia, Lithuania, Serbia, and Ukraine. To streamline this process, we partnered with local hubs, allowing Playrix to receive the figurines without customs complications.

Production officially began in September, incorporating refinements based on Playrix’s feedback. A brand-new mold was created to address minor flaws found in the sample stage.

In parallel with the figurine development, we worked on the packaging design. Playrix envisioned a pedestal-style box with a lid, requiring multiple design iterations to perfect. To enhance durability and maintain the visual integrity of the packaging, we suggested adding a protective sleeve (outer wrap)—an initiative that was ultimately approved and implemented.

The final packaging solution, produced by the same supplier as the figurines, ensured a seamless unboxing experience while safeguarding the product.

After months of development, the figurines were successfully delivered to Playrix employees in time for their New Year celebrations.
