A practical set of conference swag ideas for startups, scale-ups and exhibitors heading to Lisbon in November.
Web Summit 2026 runs from 9 to 12 November at MEO Arena in Lisbon, across 17 content tracks and four nights of side events. Two things differ this merch brief from any other European show. Most exhibiting startups get a stand for one day rather than four, so the whole spend has to land in a single shift. And the event happens in a country with a vast textile industry, which changes what is possible and how late you can still order. Below is a set of trade show giveaways built around both, with real examples.
Local production is the part most exhibitors miss. We work with textile suppliers in Portugal and have people on the ground there, so a t-shirt or a hoodie for Web Summit never crosses a border, clears customs or sits in a courier queue. It also means a reprint is possible while the event is still running.
What Web Summit changes about your order
Startups exhibit for one day. ALPHA, BETA and GROWTH stands each run on a single day of the four. If that is you, ordering four days of stock is the most common way to waste the budget.
The evenings carry as much weight as the floor. Opening Night and the Late Night Summit are where the longer conversations happen, and nobody takes a tote bag to them. Wearables and pocket sized items do the work after six.
Press are in the building. Anything your team wears ends up in the background of photographs, which makes staff kit the most visible merch you will produce, not an afterthought at the end of the order.

If you have one day on the floor
Everything in this section has to earn its place in about eight hours of stand time.
Custom tote bags. Still the item delegates actively look for, and the only giveaway that keeps working after they leave your stand, because it carries everything they pick up at the next forty. A velcro front turns it into a collectible: swap the patch per event or per campaign, as we did for Xsolla at a gamedev conference.
Badge patches and lanyard add-ons. The official lanyard belongs to the event sponsor, but nothing stops you clipping something to it. A patch or a small enamel piece rides on every badge in the hall for the rest of the week, which is an unusual reach for a small budget.
One pocket sized object. Not a folder, not a notebook. A stick-on card wallet for the back of a phone, a keyring that unfolds into a short charging cable, a microfibre cloth that actually cleans a laptop screen. All three get used during the event itself, which is the whole point: the delegate should be holding your item while talking to somebody else, with a coffee in one hand and a bag already on the other shoulder.

If you have a four-day stand
Textile produced in Portugal. This is the local advantage in its plainest form. A heavyweight tee or hoodie made and decorated in the same country arrives without freight, customs and with the option of a second run mid event (although it comes with a higher price).
A giveaway that changes with the day. A four-day stand has a problem a one-day stand does not: by Wednesday the regulars have stopped seeing it. Split one order into four variants, one per day. Velcro patches are the cheapest way to do it, and they clip onto the tote from the section above, so whoever took a bag on day one comes back for the set.
Smart merch that captures something. An NFC chip in an object turns a handout into a link to your deck, your demo or your calendar. We built exactly that for Muse Group, and at a tech event it is one of the few gadget ideas that does not compete with what the delegate already owns.

For the evenings and booked meetings
Team apparel. The merch your stand staff wear are the most photographed items you bring, so dress them deliberately. The Growth Division t-shirts we made for inDrive are a good reference for kit that reads as a team rather than a uniform.
One real gift for investors and partners. Small quantities, high finish, handed over in a meeting rather than pushed across a counter. Custom AirPods or 3D figurines show the level this slot calls for.

Planning backwards from 9 November: custom production from scratch needs roughly 2-3 months from brief to delivery, while branding a catalogue item in the EU can be done in 4-5 weeks. Portugal-made textile sits at the short end of that. Confirm exact dates with us before committing to a concept.
Five checks before you sign off the order
Order for your actual stand days, not the event length. One day on the floor is one day of stock, plus a reserve for the evenings.
Dress the team first. Staff kit is the merch that appears in every photo taken at your stand.
Check the print, not the mockup. Ask for a physical sample, especially on textile and on anything with texture. Decoration choices change the result more than most briefs assume.
Keep someone able to fix things locally. A missing box on day one is only a problem if nobody in the country can act on it.
